Tabuteau would recommend that you exhale, inhale fully, and then exhale partially until your lung capacity is comfortable.
In long-winded [sic] pieces, I will mark my music with places to exhale, and places to inhale.
And while circular breathing is a great trick if you can do it, I think it interferes with the natural phrasing of music; continuous sound can be hard on the listener, as well as on the player! Music is meant to be phrased, just as speech is phrased with punctuation. Find the right places to exhale and inhale in your music.
