You will get usd to this - as oboes have such high breath resistance you will need to exhale all the remaining stale air in your lungs before taking in a fresh breath (and for your own safety as well!). And don't try to run on empty by only taking shallow breaths - take full lungfulls of air each time so you have the full breath support, even though very little air is being let out.
With reed instruments, you maintain full breath pressure at all times and use your tongue as a valve to stop the vibration of the reed (like a primed hosepipe with your thumb stopping the open end, and releasing your thumb allows the water to escape at full pressure), not pushing the air with every tongued note as you won't be fully primed which will give each note a < shape.
And when you do circular breathing, you have to exhale out through your nose before taking a fresh breath - all the while maintaining the air pressure in your mouth to keep the sound going.
