that wide bell compared to long & narrow modern is very interesting comparison, this explains why i've been thinking modern oboe bells look too small, my very first student oboe way back when must have had a wider bell rather than this narrower modern style

how much longer would an oboe have to be to get a good low A out of it?
does this mean some notes in the high upper register would be sacrificed?

At the moment it's relatively hard to do 2 octaves in A up, but maybe it wouldn't be as hard to get 2 octaves down?
