I second what Lois said (hi Lois! Remember me?) If the company will not let you have the instrument for a trial period, walk away! There are a lot of reputable dealers with wonderful used oboes available.

Have you tried Midwest Musical Imports? Carlos Coehlo Woodwinds? Nora Post? Mark Chudnow? Pat McFarland? Forrests Music? RDG, Inc? These folks all have good track records and provide great service.

Never buy somethng you cannot try first. I would also go with an older Loree or something like a Fox over a lesser name like Malverne. Get a brand that is well known and well respected - after all, there is a reason they have been around for a long time. Your oboe will service you for a longer time too.
