I'm pretty sure that there is a Yamaha beginner's model with fully-automatic octaves, designed for the German market.

hmm .. I can't find it now, so I'm probably mistaken. I notice that even Marigaux don't make a student model with fully-automatic octaves, so perhaps a regular Conservatoire fingering is the norm for German students? Marigaux market very strongly in Germany, where it is possibly the most favoured instrument maker.
