... uh, did you say silver staples? S'pose you must be going pro ... but am wondering, since you're not making your own reeds yet? Wouldn't brass be OK to start with? ... cheaper for your early attempts at reeds ... unless you're now playing your very own mellow top-quality pro oboe that doesn't sing for brass, why do silver?
... ditto, weighted considerations re mandrel ... since it's a tool, should feel comfortable in the hand (no pointed handle) and fit/shape staples accurately, not look prestigious on eBay later ... * image * can't play leaping and slurring allegro oboe music in 4 flats ...
