And Frank Cohen got sent to the minors, with a violist to be named later.

I guess this puts a damper on their plans for NYC taxpayers to build them a new concert hall with a retractable roof.

Shameful, absolutely shameful! What sort of message does this disgraceful behavior send to our young clarinet prodigies? Next thing you know, the French horns will be taking graft to "throw" notes during concerts....

The line between music and sport is quite thin.
In case you don't know that..."Where have you been?"
A maestro may lose over ten pounds per gig!
A tympanist's muscles are overly big!
So steroids are used to secure that big win.

Musicians on drugs? What is next?
This whole thing has got me perplexed.
It used to be sports,
Where we'd get these reports
Which named the usual suspects. ...GBK

AFAIK, the only thing on steroids in St. Louis is the SLSO concertmaster's fee to appear as soloist with a community orchestra.

Musicians on drugs? Yes, indeed!
It used to be quite the thing.
But sex and drugs and ...classical music?
Just doesn't have the right ring!

Arf, arf!

Jack...You must have missed Ravel's Bolero in the movie "Ten" with Bo Derek!

"Do you do drugs?"
"Yes sir"
"Often?"
"Every day sir"

"Good. Good"

So Cohen got sent to Bucyrus
These things that you see on papyrus
I suspect they will call
"Return in the fall,
But do not bring back a bad virus"

But GBK...you must know better than that!
Jazz "cats" are known to smoke one joint per set.
In classical it oftentimes tends to be hidden.
But whom do you think they're ultimately kiddin'?
I've seen it myself between acts at the Met!

"Get in tune!" is the rallying cry,
Of conductors from May to July.
But when you shoot up,
If by needle or cup,
You'll never play flat - only "high" ...GBK

So when a musician plays "high" in the scale,
we now know he may go to prison or jail.
There'll be no excuse,
for such an abuse.
No mercy and not even bail!

Thus if I play high on my eefer,
you'll think I was smoking a reefer?
Your Honor, I swear
I'm just playing what's there
on the music page -- so what's your beef? (er....)

Think baseball's got problems with drugs?
Well, look at those orchestra thugs!
That oft-mentioned combi
of Bonds and Giambi
Are pikers next to Maazel's big lugs.

This subject is making me weary,
Although it makes music less dreary.
"Tune in or drop out!"
The maestro may shout.
Just like in the time of Tim Leary.

The 60's were really sublime,
Eventhough we had riots and crime.
The worst thing we saw,
Were protests for war.
Me? I cut class all the time. ...GBK

And GBK is living proof
That a pro's life can STILL be aloof,
He cut class all the time
But his playing's still sublime
And YOU thought the only class cutters were goofs . . .

Eventhough I cut class quite a bit,
In the practice room thus I would sit.
The old music chairman
Said: "Go practice Baermann"
So, my scales in thirds I'd commit ...GBK

There once was a man from Nantucket . .

Whoops! Wrong forum . . . hehe [right] . . . hold on . . . lemme try again . . . . .

Most people could probably bear,
To miss a class here or there.
But although you skip class,
Remember to PASS,
Or your diploma will vanish in thin air . . .

The 60's were nice, that's a fact!
With Woodstock, Tim Leary and Brecht.
Those years now seem just like a blur,
But could these times ever recur?
Not likely, with the Patriot Act!

It's a satire on drug scandals in sports, particularly baseball. (And a good reminder to not believe everything you read on the Internet.)

The dude of eefer
has forgot his reefer
the slime clarinet has replaced his reed
with a some serious weed.

orchestras everywhere have gone to pot
just goes to show you're culture's rot

I simply stick to single beer
and at conductor's sneer

Too bad to hear that the original article was a joke. I would have responded less seriously if I had realized that!
