Well, just to clarify, I scrape the bark off the whole thing first (though leaving rails along the back), but then I finish the tip probably 95% before even starting the windows. The last few scrapes on each section I don't do in a prescribed order. Those scrapes are about balancing the reed, so they have to be executed by feel, reacting to the individual needs of each reed.
Certainly the sequence of events varies from reedmaker to reedmaker, but I think there's general agreement regarding the critical importance of the tip. I've never met a good reedmaker who wouldn't agree that the tip is the most important part of the reed. This seems to be a principle that transcends nationalistic schools and individualistic styles of reedmaking.
