Hey Susan,
Way to go. Excellent.
(Stage whisper: Ok, here is the real secret behind it all... seriously. Susan was already doing all the right things when I got to her place this summer. And she was doing a couple extra things that were getting in the way. Stopping those couple extra things is all I really suggested, I think. At least that became my intention after hearing her play a few notes. The excercises I gave her were intended to refine out the excesses I heard and saw. Sometimes less is more.... it sounds Zen-like, but it is pragmatic and effective once understood.)
Long tones really help remove excess from our playing... they should be done daily, forever. (Later they become drives... I will discuss those further at a later date.)
And do think 'LESS'... Less back pressure (practical minimum), less tongue (use just one taste bud and then you are using 200% of what is best), use less abdominal stress, find a comfortable posture and perhaps most importantly, use less reed in your faces.
Good things will happen, I promise, and like Mr. Willingham, offer a %100 satisfaction guarentee.
I am very happy for you Susan...!
