I live in a 1980s solar home in CO, and no duct work, so no original AC either. Not good for oboes or reeds or oboe players or mid-life wives as far as I can tell.
After some research, and a couple unbearable summers, we found that Mitsubishi makes a duct-less AC or combo AC/Heat pump.
We had it installed 4 years ago... ugly pipes are hidden on the solar room out of sight, and now have great AC and some 'cheap' heat in cold weather.
Its actually somewhat 'green' and the hot is not so fun...
(Its called Mr. Slim and allows us to just cool one room if that is needed for sleep... good stuff.)
