It's al to do with the internal shape of the bell - what seems to be popular with current makers are bells that have a concave curve at the bell mouth (which narrows back in towards the bell opening), and a convex curve towards the bell throat (where the low B tonehole is), so it's almost an ~ shape - not as exaggerated as a baroque oboe, a d'amore or cor bell, but certainly a complex shape inside rather than a straight cone or slight flare with convex curving sides.

Look inside the bell through the bell socket to see the shape of the inside curves, and compare it with other makes. Some are more hollowed out (concave) than others.
