just for the record, the Weber reed book is BIG on the three octave crow, but considers the lowest C a bonus that's nice to have but not absolutely necessary...he thinks you should crow with the thread touching the lips and with the reed hanging from the mouth without manual support...he also thinks that the reed should crow C when crowed with the regular playing embouchure...finally, he recommends scraping lightly in the lower back (just above the bark) to bring out the middle C, and if that doesn't work, just below the heart in the upper back. He recommends scraping a bit in the heart to bring out the lowest C, but says it might not come so don't go nuts.

i think based on all of the above thread entries, we can say with confidence that that's not a bad place to start but depending on your own personal constellation of multiple factors, you may not end there!
