Oboe1960 basically picked up on the same thing I did, and answered the question a little earlier in this thread.
But, just for emphasis, let me say it again, before you attempt to go out and reinvent the wheel or search for answer to a problem which may not exist: PUSH THE REED ALL THE WAY IN.
ALL THE WAY IN, until it won't go any more.
If your reed is not pushed all the way in, you will be flat, no matter how wonderful the reed is, or how strong your chops are.
