Hello All --
I'd like to hear from folks who are either taking or teaching private instrumental lessons, about the specifics of what goes on during the lesson time. Just looking for a reality check.
Within the course of a typical hour lesson, what do you cover? Do you include scales, technical exercises, and repertoire in every lesson?
Do you stick to a clear-cut lesson plan week-to-week? Is there a weekly assignment around a specific issue (e.g., tonguing, breath, intonation), or do you simply address things as they come up?
Do you assign (are you assigned) particular exercises or pieces to address particular challenges?
How much time do you actually play (listen to your student play), versus talking about playing?
Do you set specific goals for each session?
How do you gauge your (your student's) progress?
Thanks for any and all input! Reply privately if you wish (email link by clicking on screen name, above).
Susan
