Hi Susan,
I will probably have my sixth lesson later this month, and my first lesson
was in late September. I usually record the lesson so I can play it back
to recall the details of what my teacher said......also hear her play with
comments. Usually I email her to set up a new lesson, and I inform her about my accomplishments, efforts, and problems. Lately, she has been very encouraging, saying that I've come a long way since I first came to her.
I haven't really noticed a lesson plan. Our main focus until the last meeting has been embouchure and air stream, and she usually has an exercise for me to practice until the next lesson. Sometimes she writes it for me while I'm there. Right now, I'm practicing sliding with the G scale, and I do warm ups with the C and B flat scale. She has also given me two compositions to
play.
I'd say that my lessons generally have no structure, but I come away from the sessions feeling that I've learned somethng new. I'm really thankful for the time she gives me because she is a super busy lady, and she tries to squeeze me into her schedule whenever she can.
I think I've learned alot from the music book I bought from our local music store, "Essential Elements 2000 Plus DVD". I use the book to keep me focused, and I also use a few pieces in it to practice my sliding.
I have to say that it's a challenge, but it's fun too.
I hope that this thread continues because I'd like to do some reality checking myself.
Thanks,
Judy
