You mention that you went through a period of adjustment after you switched from your old Loree to your new Yamaha. Could you tell me some more about that? I wonder if you could respond to the statement in the post before yours about the Yamaha being "more resistant" than some other oboes. Have you found that to be the case? How did you have to adjust your reeds -- down or up in hardness, or did you begin using a different style of reed?
I play a Yamaha 411. It's the second oboe I've played, having very briefly used an old Linton without the left-hand F. I've had some questions about the resistance of the Yamaha (it sometimes seems pretty resistant) and the evenness of the scale (certain notes seem to "pop"), but since I am a relative beginner, I've never been sure whether it's me or the horn -- and when in doubt, I am very willing to believe any difficulty or shortcoming results from my (lack of) technique rather than something intrinsic to the instrument.
I'd welcome any comments you might make along these lines. Thanks in advance!
