OK, here I am, back from a week in the American SW (hot, humid -- thunderstorms every day). While there, I learned that I had to adjust my reeds (downward in resistance) daily, or even hourly, as they (for want of a better term) "puffed up" with the humidity.
I came back to Ohio on a relatively dry day, and everything was easy to play and sounded good.
Yesterday and today, it has been very humid and warm again, and the reeds are resisting like crazy, and my instrument is watering up. And of course, I have a concert tonight, with a lot of solo oboe work that is all mine.
So, do I go ahead and adjust a couple of reeds like I was doing in Santa Fe so I have something that I can play smoothly and easily -- at the risk of ruining them for future use? Or do I just tough it out and blow harder?
How much adjusting is too much?
