This physiological change is well documented - "we" undergo drastic changes in tissue shape and resiliency based on the environment, but reeds generally are in a 98.6 degree fahrenheit, 100% (or nearly so) humidity environment, all the time.
However, the result is that you have to change your reeds to suit "your" current condition, so scraping/whittling/shaping still needs to go on to compensate.
Just don't muck up your reeds soon after getting out of long plane ride. Your body needs time to acclimate, and if you start changing the reeds right away you're probably going to ruin them - your body will be changing rapidly after getting off the plane.
