Hi everyone,
I have been asked to double on Ob. /C.A. in a local musical. The part switches around quite a bit, and I was wondering if anyone has tips on how to do this quietly, efficiently and safely. Just practicing at home, I have found the following issues.
The Sling - I find a sling uncomfortable at the best of times, but hooking and unhooking is a disaster! I am looking for (and designing) alternatives ..
The Cor is tall, so its stand must be to the side of the music (Ob. is shorter). In the dark I could miss it and send the instrument flying ..
Ob. reed dries out in no time flat - so I probably need to keep it soaking
Embouchure adjustments (currently) are audible - I am too firm on the Cor reed, to loose on the Ob., and until I get back into the correct "mind-set" , several notes have sounded pretty bad ..
I am very worried about the stability of my Cor stand, which is one of the Loree folding plastic types. If the Cor falls over I may as well pack up the pieces and go home.
Any advice gratefully received ..
J.
