The 1st months are rough because the edge is so thin: the wrong stone or even hard cane will cause the edge to nick. That's the main reason I put in a bevel.
Most of these guides are really built for chisels and/or plane blades. I'm tempted to buy one of the following, I saw one of them in store at Lee Valley with a hunting knife set in it:

.... but seeing as I can do a good job by hand, I tend to be cheap.....
There is also this gadget which I would say is phenomenal, just from looking at how it is built an works.

.... but this one is REALLY expensive, and I would only buy it if I were selling sharpening services.
As I look at Huboboe's fixture, it looks quite excellent to me. If you can remove the blade from your handle, great. Otherwise, many knives have a flattened handle (e.g. Pisoni or Graf) that should also fit the fixture, as far as I can tell from the picture.
