Hello all,
As the subject says, my reeds keep on dying on me...as in I buy reeds, and then try to play them, and the first day they are lovely, and then the next day or the day after I come to play them, and they are unbelievably sharp and very, very 'tinny', due to the opening closing up. Instead of being a pointed ellipse, the tip looks like 2 straight lines sat on top of each other. I try to rectify it by gently squeezing the sides or adjusting the wire, but it only holds for about 15-20s- if I hold a long note, I can here the pitch slowly rising uncontrollably... :(
And yes, I do dry them as best I can after playing, I do rotate around reeds, and I store them in a well ventilated reed box.
As an aside, I was also wondering if this had anything to do with why I cant seem to get any diminuendos at all, and struggle to get anything to sound half-decent below 'forte', as in the tone seems to die when I try to get quieter...
Sorry for the long post, but any help would be much appreciated :D
