The Oboe BBoard

I have had luck buying vintage oboes from eBay. Most of them require some work (repadding etc.), but many of the vintage oboes have bores that are not found in modern designs anymore. Old Buffets for example had a very nice, slender sound that is a thing of the past. If you like vintage clarinets, you may like these qualities in vintage oboes.
The oboe embouchure is very different from that of the clarinet (I know first hand because I dabbled on saxophone for a short while). A good teacher would be essential. I have taught students who had poor initial training, and it was not easy to change their bad habits.
