There are various schools of thought on oiling the bore..some say catagorically dont and some the opposite..
Personally I have never oiled a bore. The issue I have with oiling a bore is that whilst the oil initially lubricates it eventually dries hard and brittle and does nothing to add flexibility in the timber, by its very nature it will go extremely hard and whilst it may add some waterproofing capabilites it will also have attracted dust particles and or bits of feather during the application..( I have no scientific proof of this its just common sense) If you must oil I would say that Almond oil is quite a heavy oil and may well be far too thick to penetrate the wood properly and is I would suspect a hand on from a bygone age when they didnt have a lot of choice oil wise as we do today. I would research bore oils via the manufacturers reccomendations to see what they advise.
