Different materials give different sound, an oboe made of "exotic" woods like violetwood and cocobolo would normally produce a "warmer" sound.

The bell does make a different. I tried a cocobolo bell on my grenadilla body and there was indeed a difference in sound. However, the difference wasn't that significant to warrent a purchase of a bell that cost a few hundred bucks.

The downside to these woods is that they tend to be softer than grenadilla and are therefore more prone to cracking and climatic changes. That's why it's not advisable to get your first wood pro-line oboe in anything other than grenadilla!

I almost purchased a cocobolo oboe (I loved that instrument!) last summer but settled on a grenadilla upon advice from my teacher. I wasn't willing to take the risk too!
