My 2nd Loree DM was a bargain when i bought it a few months ago at approx. $2000 plus. I bet there is a possibility of finding one priced at so in the US. With proper care any wood instrument will survive. The weather here in Malaysia is a happy 37 degrees celsius almost everyday with high humidity. But at long last if you don't want to take the risk, since i am not really sure about other opinions on this, the new fox or yamaha half resin bodied instruments might work fine with you. I have heard bad things about Yamaha being the most prone to cracking. But of course those are just rumors. Don't worry about sound quality governed by material. Resin and wood is just as good, with minor preferences which you might want to consider later on. The thing is that a well made oboe is going to be good. And manufacturers simply do not make good ones with resin anymore, because its harder to work on and adjust with hand. So good luck!
