Hot tap water cools to luke warm by the time it gets to my reed table & I plunk the cane into the water. I've tried soaking cane in water from the cold tap. The stuff takes over an hour to sink. Must be something to do with the hardness of our water. Heavy with concentrations of iron & lime. Anyway for what its worth, my teacher Bob Hubbard has been pleased with my reeds of late. Using Grimaud (David Weber) & Rigotti (Daniel Rigotti at the last two IDRS vendor sales) So I think as long as you don't boil the water before you put the cane in to soak, "hot" tap water is fine.
