WRT 1st & 2nd octave keys:
I think Sprenkle's advice is best and it's what I tell students; however, I confess to usually keeping the thumb on the 1st octave key when pressing the 2nd octave key in scale-wise passages. When making octave leaps on the left-hand notes however, I only use the 2nd octave key and insist on this from my students since it makes for much cleaner technique (e.g., in the oboe solo in the Hoedown movement from Copland's Rodeo, or in Ravel's Piano Cto. in G, 1st mvt).
WRT the right-hand C,C#,Eb keys:
Sliding should be a rare occurrence if your technique involves hitting the C key with the middle part of your little finger when moving between low C and C#. Otherwise, you'll have to slide between C and C#. Similarly sliding should be a rare occurrence between the Eb and the C or C# keys since the Eb is duplicated in the left hand, but of course there will always be places where sliding is necessary.
I recall that Leon Goossens wrote about hitting the low B key using the middle part of the finger so that he could rock from that key to the left-hand Eb key but I've never been able to do that reliably (I slide instead). This technique (rocking) is easier to do on Lorees than on Yamahas or Laubins because of the angle of the left hand key cluster.
