Well, since I'm not rolling my thumb onto a sharp pointed piece of metal, it doesn't bother my poor little thumb one whit. I just lift it off and put it down, flat, back and forth, onto the key and back onto the body of the oboe.

This is probably going to slow me down if I ever have to play sixteenth notes, but as my highest ambition is to be able to play hymns on Sunday morning along with our church's 6-member "orchestra", I somehow don't think that's going to be a problem. :D
