Michigan State and University of Michigan are big schools with big oboe studios, and if the students were to go there, I doubt they would have much opportunity to play other than the very lowest of low bands, which would be about the level of a decent high school band.
Jan Eberle is the professor at Michigan State (my alma mater), while University of Michigan heralds Nancy Ambrose King, a very respected teacher. U of M in particular is very competitive just to get in, and the level of playing in the studio is quite high.
