Since I started this thread a year ago, I have gotten another oboe -- a Covey Classic. But up until a few weeks ago, she didn't have a name, nor was I clear about her gender (my "other" oboe is a boy Yamaha named Gulliver).
Funniest thing, as I was writing that first paragraph, I tried to call her "it", and I just couldn't. She's a "she," and her name is Fred, as in Princess Winnifred the Woebegone from "Once Upon a Mattress". That's not only because she's a sweet and sensitive princess, but also because her upper joint cracked pretty impressively during the dress rehearsal for our community theatre production of that musical, leaving me with no choice but to play Gulliver for the rest of the run. (Gulliver works fine, but he's all boy, so not nearly as elegant and refined as Fred.)
Fred is all better now: happy to be home, and sweeter than ever.
The old Linton still doesn't have a name. I think I may have to find her a new home.
Happy Spring!
Susan
