 Re: Adjustments for Wonky F

Wow! This is crazy unbelievable, is this some kind of synchronous happening, or what?

until you posted this topic, i'd no idea my difficulties centering F this year might even be an issue with anybody else other than yours truly, it just seemed too trivial a learning curve to mention

there i was soloing Edelweiss at Christmas and the dang top F reverbed painfully out of tune, it was such a spoiler, i was bummed for days after

like ohsusan, on different make of oboe entirely, forked F is lovely, but basic / left F is very unstable especially first octave F -- even using Eb to help stabilize the basic F doesn't work

everytime i see an F now i'm tempted to fork it if possible

all this time i've been laboring under the impression i'm probably not cutting my reeds right to get F / F# / G zone properly centred, but now you're suggesting it's a fundamental instrument problem with wonky F?

or is it some other global vibration that's phasing basic F physical acoustics out of tune?! Cell phones, satellite signals ??

i've also had the weirdest experience with my oboe especially in the last 6 months, it sounds absolutely gorgeous when my reeds are new (a bit flattish) and the tuner's calibrated at 435, but it turns into a shrew in upper register especially when the reed's blown in for A-440, and what was a mellow fully centred F when the tuner's set a bit lower becomes tempermentally unstable and waspish in sound at 440
go figure

well, this oboe's a year old and ready for annual maintenance adjustments
