Dear all,
Attached please find photos of my new F resonance key. I've had the instrument back for four days now and am very pleased with the result of this addition. Indeed, the name "resonance" key is fitting; far from simply raising the pitch of the octave F, the two lower Fs on the oboe are now tonally in line with surrounding notes like F#, which I've always (on all makes of oboes) found quite piercing compared to the relatively dull F. No longer an issue... the Fs now resonate just as the other notes. The key is adjustable, of course, and can be disabled completely for comparison. At the moment the motion of the resonance key is comparable to that of the third octave.
I was wrong -- I did have to pay for the key, but I would have felt guilty otherwise as the key had to be built specially. In any case, it solved the problem of the flat and jumpy octave F, so in fact I had no choice, and I'm very pleased to have it all resolved. Thanks to all for your ideas.
