I had a wonderful Laubin, circa 1994, with a liner. The wood never cracked, and I never had any trouble with the liner. The tone did not deteriorate or 'blow out' over the 5 or 6 years during which it was my primary instrument. Laubin may line its top joints with a different method than Yamaha, but shows that the technique can be very successful.
