I see Yamaha are offering lined joints (called Duet+) on their oboes to prevent splitting.
These are an ebonite lined top joint on 800 series with inset tonehole bushes as some companies already do, and on the 400 series a cast bore which also fills recesses where toneholes are located to make for integral bore and tonehole bushes.
I especially like the latter idea as it does mean integrity of the lining with the toneholes making for an impervious barrier and also the minimum amount of wood is removed from the joint.

(though I'm not happy that the oboe is laid down on it's feather keys on the table - it should be laid down on the C/C#/Eb cluster side!)
