It's a Selmer Signet Soloist (same as a Selmer 104) which is full Gillet system. I missed out on an all-plastic Fox (300? - the full Gillet system one), but this Signet came around soon enough.
I saw it listed on eBay and went for it as I wanted a cheap-but-good plastic oboe (and this one was a 10th of the price of a new plastic pro model oboe, and they're better than the equivalent wooden Selmer ones in that the bore is straight!) so I didn't have to worry about playing my kingwood Howarth outside in winter. And playing on the quayside in Southampton docks in winter (for the maiden voyages of the Queen Victoria, as well as playing on the open deck) isn't ideal by any means - but they fed us well.
This oboe stood up to the cold well enough (though did suffer the usual condensation issues), though I did have to make sure I put plenty of end play between pillars on the long keys (such as the top joint trill key levers and some others) so they didn't bind up solid when the joints contracted with the cold.
I dread to think of how these Chinese ones would cope with these conditions.
