Good pads resist moisture and don't leak air
Pads which don't do both these jobs can be called 'old'
If a pad doesn't resist water, it will absorb it instead, this makes the pad chronically wet
a wet pad is relatively colder than a dry pad in the same air temperature
breath is warm and moist, when it contacts any cold surface, breath moisture condenses ... and cold wet pads will attract more condensation than warm dry pads
a chronically wet pad wicks more water into its vent hole
