Bobo, which DI did you get? I see only this one at Forrests:

Forrests Reed & Cane Indicator.. This series of indicators has been redesigned and improved and we now offer both analog (dial) and digital (LCD) displays in versions for oboe and bassoon. The analog models are available with metric dials only; the digital models change from metric to English at the touch of a button. This precision measuring device allows the user to measure cane or finished reeds to a hundredth of a millimeter.

I'm interested in getting one of these, but it's an expensive experiment. Having used micrometers when I worked in a machine shop, I'm wondering if there are calibration issues and whether a digital would be more or less accurate than an analog. Anybody know?

Also, my teacher seemed to think that using a DI when making a reed (as opposed to measuring cane) would be quite difficult for an oboe reed due to its size. Anyone have input?
