Silk works nicely for me. I use it on all three pieces separately so I can concentrate on drying the tenons also. I never pull it all the way through the top joint but just until it gets taut...then I pull it back through the wider end. This allows it to do the job but not put any excessive friction to the thinnest part of the top bore. Also eliminates the possibility of the wretched "stuck swab" incident.
