Howard, what kind of oboe do you play? I play Loree regular and AK and also screw the halfhole key down so it barely opens, and I find that I need to use the open key to slur up to high D and to hit the note reliably (when I'm tongueing the high D I don't need to open). I use the open fingering along with the right index finger down on the E key to stabilize both the pitch and my grip on the oboe. I find all this works better on my regular without third octave than on my AK. While I love the third octave for hitting those high notes reliably I do find that the tone is a little harder to make pure and round, not sure why that is. I wonder if the need to play the halfhole key open is a Loree thing. I'll try your fingerings with the third octave! How'd you get the idea of changing the diamond shape?
