what a story! i sympathize with the oboist to some extent, but personally, i try to show up with several reeds that work and if my reeds are not perfect that day, i usually make do. any adjustment of a reed in the middle of a performance that takes more than 10 seconds is probably a reflection of poor preparation on the oboist's part.
