re: <<trying to slide your right pinky from Db to Eb just doesn't work >>
sliding next to impossible for D-flat E-flat?
Well, i have seen & heard it done by my second and most venerable oboe teacher many decades ago, who showed me how to play the right pinky set quote correctly unquote -- you hover the tip of your pinky in the groove between C & Eb snug up to the Db (C#) and then roll-rotate-curl pinky tip on-off the keys as needed
Ditto concept for left pinky set (no left hand F though), roll-rotate from LEb to B, get the Bb by curling the pinky joints around to squeeze it down
But, nope, i can't do any of that, so yes, it's next to impossible ... i'm still in amateurish stiff pinky lift-off growth phase, sigh ... (more practice needed!)
The other trick is to rub pinky tips on scalp or sides of nose to get them oiled for a better slide ... sometimes you have to fix the lay of the keys just right to slide up from right Eb to right Db, it's easier going down than up, for me anyway
