Just seeking opinions about gouge thickness, particularly for short scrape makers.
I am using pre-gouged K.Ge cane, which is great, but I find by the time I have got all layers of bark down, the reed has lost all its warmth and becomes quite thin sounding. They recommended a gouge of 56-57 for short scrape.
However, Mr Dee has gouged some cane for me which I am using to make long scrape reeds, and he gouges to 60. More work, but much warmer, more stable reeds.
Thoughts? My gut tells me I should be using a thicker gouge, in fact it always did, I just went on what K.Ge recommended. I'm going to order more cane soon, so I would like to order a thicker gouge if this will help me.
On a side note, has anyone used the Innoledy gouger? Mr Dee has one, and it is so easy to use, but I have nothing to compare to. Although I would only be able to afford one once I won the lottery, I am curious to know!
