I used to twist to the left for the same reason. And out of habit as well.

But a few months back CJWright pointed out and convinced me twisting the other way has a natural tendency to prop open the tips...

I know there was some dissenting opinion on the topic, but I have proven this to my satisfaction. I think its is valuable and useful.

Its a slight difference, and makes for a slightly fuller tone Vs. left-twisting.
( I refer to a reed tied right-handed...and overlapped to the right...)

It took my a while to adjust to the different feeling for tongueing and I discovered it also opened a lot of favorable possibilities for slight tonal variations with articulation.

So, thanks to CJWright for some great advice and give it a try and a few days to become comfortable and confident with the diference.

I find it very useful on oboe and useful on cor as well.
