Several reasons that can cause the articulated C# not to work:

Cold temperatures or low humidity causing the key to bind between pillars,

Too high viscosity oil used on the steel screw,

Wrong type of oil used (eg. bore oil),

Bore oil or dirt contaminating the pad and bedplace,

Rusty screw,

Jagged free end to the flat spring,

Weak or incorrectly bent flat spring,

Twisted or loose pillar,

Bent key barrel or screw,

Burr on shoulder of screw (by the threaded end) or key barrel,

Barrel tight between pillars,

Key barrel too tight on screw.
