I can see the value of what you are saying, Coop, but the Internet being what it is, I'm not so sure that a public registry of our locations would be what we want.
And I might just add that, the Internet being what it is, it would be wise to check references on any potential host or houseguest BEFORE the fact.
In the situation at hand, Craig's wife had expressed serious qualms about her DH possibly putting himself in harm's way by going into the home of total strangers (I think "ax murderer" was the phrase she used), and I certainly had similar hesitations. Luckily, through mutual acquaintances and a prior business transaction, we were able to check each other out independently.
But, bottom line, I would not go stumbling blithely into an up-close relationship with anyone I met on the Internet -- even on this very friendly and narrowly topical board -- without some basic identity verification. (Disclaimer: I did actually meet my husband on the Internet . . .)
