... vibrato on oboe
i listened to my oboe recordings specifically for vibrato after this topic was posted, and although my selections are very few at the moment, there were significant different things i heard and made note of
The famous Marcello C adagio / Zanfini edition
It sounded to me as if he applied vibrato quite deliberately on long notes, otherwise luscious rich resonance in his playing may seem like vibrato, but it isn't the same pronounced and deliberate effect as heard on his long notes
Albinoni Dm adagio / Camden edition (that pp start to long crescendo gave me goosebumps the very first time i heard it and i still admire it, wow!)
He didn't seem to deliberately apply any vibrato, but it was *lightly* there in frequent places, it sounds to me as if it's more natural & spontaneous.
His overall resonance is much lighter than Zanfini's so it's hard for me to tell sometimes if he's naturally vibing or not
Beethoven's 7th, unknown oboist Birmingham SO
something happened in the intro theme, what started as a pleasant vibrato began reverbing so badly, oboist suddenly switched it off, played pure note and sounded a lot better
oboist sound gallery would be good place to find out what a greater variety of other oboists are doing with vibrato, but i'm not sure how to insert and link you folks up to that site while writing all this, if i go out of this window to search for something not already stored in bookmarks it'll erase my comments ...
one thing for sure, vibrato doesn't happen on every note all the time
