Howarths are made to any specification, but they're mostly conservatoire system (apart from three student models which are pure thumbplate system, or four if you count the 'B' model made by Orsi), and can be ordered with a thumbplate or have one added later on - it has a strong spring to keep the linkage on the top joint down so the Bb and C keys remain open until the thumbplate is pressed, and the Bb and C keys will open when RH 1 is closed provided the left thumb remains on the thumbplate.

And any make of oboe can have a thumbplate (and repositioned 3rd 8ve key) added. Most Loree, Marigaux, Rigoutat, etc. oboes sold in the UK have had thumbplates added.

The opinions I express are my own.
