I've read many great suggestions for improving a legato articulation.
When we play music we are given a group of symbols to guide us through our performances.... the notes themselves, crescendi, diminuendi, tenuto etc., but they are just that, symbols, that form a foundation or frame for us to work from. It takes our individual personalities and our musical hearts and souls to bring the symbols to life. When I sing the tune from... O come O come... I hear it with a few slurs. I definitely do not hear every note articulated. I would play it that way, whether there were slurs in the actual music or not. If there were complaints I'd do my best to play it all articulated, with as elegant a legato as I could muster, but it does not make musical sense to me that way. Best wishes.....
