Loree bocals are also rather saggy in the high register, and I would strongly not recommend them.

The best Ehorn I've ever tried was a rosewood Laubin. If you can find one, and they occassionally do pop up on Midwest Musical or other boards, a Laubin EH is the best hands down in my opinion. (I'm a Loree oboe player.)

I think it's extremely interesting that Martin Schuring, one of the most respected oboe teachers in America and a Curtis Grad (thus a philly, de Lancie lineage more "colorful" sounding player) would endorse Howarth English Horns (he's on the IDRS double Reed Howarth ads holding an Ehorn). I would have certainly expected him to choose a brighter Loree or Rigoutat sound but apparently he prefers the Howarth. Probably definetely worth looking into.

Does anyone know where Phil Ross is playing?
