I am also NOT an oboist, but had a 10 year go at it, learning a bit.. One of my first qusestion on tackling the ill wind, being a lover of mechanisms, was "Why not a Boehm System for oboe".. Searching patent art and visiting museums, I found there had been a number of attempts, none too successful. The latest I know of, maybe the most comprehensive, was by Dick Paladino, earlier a reed-man at the Sands in Las Vegas,. I have never found that anything has come from the 5 patents to him, I have their #s, not even in the form of "models", which I think were the basis for the pats. If anyone knows more, please let it be known! The French oboe dominance in the US, Loree and others, has improved the several Triberts of the late 1800's considerably, and there is, [similar to clarinets] a very good and different-sounding German oboe, bigger bore and reed I believe. Years ago, I talked with Jack Linton about his oboes/bassoons, quite good insts, I played a FC model wood, ZRS, quite a "loud" horn. He was then unaware of any commercial activity re a Boehm. I believe ?Hugo? Fox in Chicago, making fine insts now, would be a source of info, historic and modern, as I see that I have now told you more than what I REALLY know about oboes etc. Nuff for now. Afterthought, independent, not "automatic" octave keying is desireable for playing the above staff G to C by way of the Harmonics, 3rd, I believe. Don
